Demonstrations

Demonstrations, protests and the like are useful when violators of our rights refuse to change their ways.  The largest demonstration we've had to date would have to be the Godless Americans March on Washington, which was the launch of GAMPAC.

It takes a little courage to be the only one protesting but, as Matthew Hughes can attest, it's a great way to get free press coverage. To carry out a protest you'll need signs, a crowd and possibly a permit. Signs are easy enough. You'll want them to be rigid but light weight. Contact the appropriate government authority to inquire about a permit before you begin.

Especially in cases of counter-demonstrations, there is always the potential for trouble so its a good idea to know your rights. One person from your group should be designated as a Legal Observer. This same person will serve as Legal Support Person in case of arrests or other resulting legal matters.

To minimize the problems, each demonstrator should be familiar with non-violent street tactics, dealing with police, and filing police misconduct reports.
