Sell Articles at Flea Markets
You can locate a flea market in your area through the Flea Market Locator. This can be a really fun activity for the weekend. Bring a friend or two so you can take turns shopping while someone else sells at your table. Get your local group involved and have different volunteers man the table each weekend. You can raise money for your local organization or just for yourself and spread some freethought materials at the same time.
Price your items ahead of time and label them. People are likely to buy more if they don't have to ask you "how much is this?" Use removable stickers for pricing. Damage from a price tag might lose you the sale! Peeling off sticker glue sucks! People go to flea markets and swap meets because they want a good deal make sure they get one. Items should be organized and displayed in an orderly fashion with every item clearly visible. If everything is in boxes or piles that the customer has to dig through, they may never find just what they want. If you go up to people every time they look at something, they'll feel uncomfortable and you'll lose the sale. Be friendly, but wait until they approach you before speaking. Save grocery bags from the store and have them on hand for people who purchase several items. Never leave your cash unattended. It only takes seconds for someone to spot the opportunity and run off with all your day's earnings.
During the active school year, Atheists of Florida has a booth at the University of South Florida Elm Street Flea Market each Wednesday. Their table displays newsletters, pamphlets, several books of interest to atheists, T-shirts and membership applications. Students may meet atheists and discuss and learn about the atheist philosophy.
