Atheist News Podcast Atheist Forums Think Atheist

The internet has been the greatest catalyst for bringing the Freethought community together and continues to be the major mode of communications for us. Unfortunately, we are still not as prevalent as the religious are on the web. You can do your part to equalize the equation regardless of your experience or expertise with interent technology. Even the novice can counter some of the religious rhetoric simply by commenting on articles, engaging in debates and creating forums.

If you are not already on one of the social networking sites like facebook, myspace, atheist nexus or think atheist, you should sign up and get a profile. There are groups of other atheists you can join and communicate with, even find some in your local area. It's been said that there are 250,000 atheists on facebook.

Using a feed aggregator, also known as a feed reader, to collect syndicated web content such as news headlines, blogs and podcasts will help you stay current on what's happening. When you read a blog or news article, look for a comment section at the bottom and give your opinion. If you are searching feed sources for certain words like "atheist" or "god", you will get articles both pro and con on the subject so be sure to refute negative claims made about atheism. Keep the discussion balanced on the web so that the theists are not making discriminatory remarks without being challenged. For an extensive list of RSS feed readers to suit any format, see the hebig.org list.

If you feel you have a unique perspective on Atheism, why not create your own website and share your view with the rest of us. You can search for "free personal website" and find lots of hosts who will allow you to set up a site for yourself. You just have to look over the offers carefully before spending the time to set up a site where there may be so much advertising that no one will want to visit the site. These types of sites do not rank high in search results either but you can share the link through your favorite networking sites, placing it in your email signature and anytime you leave a comment on another site. Normally, the host provides a number of templates you use to set up your site and you are allowed a certain amout of customization. Use the opportunity to learn a bit of HTML coding or CSS. You can connect your website to one of the webrings to get more visits.

If you have any skills in web site design or as a webmaster, offer your services to your organization or one of the national groups. If you are at this level of expertise, you probably have a pewrsonal website already. If you also have the time to devote to it, you could start your own blog with any of the many platforms available
